| Home Theatre Components | 4. A Subwoofer The appearance of home theater has introduced the Subwoofer to many consumers. A subwoofer is a specialized speaker that only reproduces the extreme low frequencies present in movies or music. There are several types of subwoofers. The type of subwoofer is determined by the size and type of room, the fact whether the room is carpeted or not. You also have to perform listening tests.
5. Source Components Your home theater must include some type of DVD player. You have to consider two main characteristics such as progressive scan and upscaling capability. This will provide the best possible image. You may not need a CD player bucause all DVD players can play CDs. But you may have a separate CD-only player in a home theater system, especially if it is a high-quality unit providing better CD audio performance. You may also want to have a DVD recorder or DVD recorder/VCR combination instead of your old VCR. But, you can still use your old VCR with your home theater. You need also to think how you will get your primary television programming: Antenna, Cable, or Satellite.
6. Surge Protector It is a good idea to provide your system with some sort of surge protection. You never know when you might have a sudden power outage, or even a brown out that may affect your system.
7. Connection Cables and Speaker Wire Your home theater can’t work unless everything is connected. You may buy basic connection cables and speaker wire or the really high-end stuff. Connection cables must have the right type, right length, and they have to connect everything correctly. Some connections have the certain color - make sure the colors on the cable ends match the connections on your components.
8. Universal Remote Control Managing an controlling home theater is one of the most complicated problem. Each component comes with its own remote. One solution is to opt for a modernized, but easy to use, universal remote that can control most of the functions of each of your components. Such universal remote control will enable everyone in the family to use the home theater system without frustration.
